The mission of the Company Counsel Network is to provide strategic highly-skilled on-site legal services, tempered with business experience, typically for small to mid-size companies that have not yet employed their own full-time in-house counsel or general counsel. Two Traditional Alternatives Until now, there were basically two ways for your company to obtain legal services: either hire an attorney to work for the company as its in-house counsel or general counsel, or retain the services of a traditional law firm. Each option has its relative advantages and disadvantages: Full-time In-house or General Counsel. The full-time “in-house counsel” or “general counsel” alternative provides a conveniently available attorney with a closer connection to your company’s management and a better understanding of your company and your industry. There is greater opportunity and likelihood for counsel to be pro-active in anticipating and addressing problems early-on. This option is not easily scalable . . . usually, qualified in-house or general counsel attorneys are only available on a full-time basis or on a relatively fixed part-time basis.
Traditional Outside Law Firm. The “traditional outside law firm” alternative offers the advantages of greater range of expertise and scalability…you can usually get all the services you need when you need them, and you only pay for the services that you use. This option involves a more arms-length relationship… less pro-active and less of a connection with your company and less of an understanding of your company and your industry. Company Counsel Network‘s New Paradigm The Company Counsel Network offers a new third alternative – a paradigm shift that (i) offers the best of both traditional alternatives with higher value and a significant reduction in cost and (ii) increases your options for dealing with legal matters in ways previously available only to larger companies. Company Counsel Network and Company Counsel Network Attorneys. The Company Counsel Network provides a network of seasoned attorneys . . . the Company Counsel Network Attorneys, each with 15-20+ years of transactional experience (business, corporate, securities, venture capital, real estate, entertainment, and commercial matters) in private legal practice, and company-side with in-house, general counsel and/or management experience. One (or more) Company Counsel Network Attorneys will provide legal services for your company on a regular on-going basis (i) actually on-site at your offices and also (ii) virtually on-site (i.e., off-site but so available by always taking your phone calls or responding promptly, that your Company Counsel Network Attorney seems like he or she is in the next office).
